Witnessing the fall, I turned and went downstairs, only to find the sticky blood on my shoes had vanished in an instant. The blood on the ground seemed to have existed only as a "signpost" guiding me to witness the murder.
At about 9 p.m., I finished eating at a roadside stall and followed the crowd toward the next intersection, heading home. On the way to the next intersection, someone in the crowd said there was something wrong with a manhole cover. I was puzzled—what could possibly be wrong with a manhole cover?
Because my hearing is not very good, I did not catch what he said next, so I kept walking. By now, the crowd behind me was getting thinner. At a fork in the road, I saw a large man holding a knife with his back to me. For safety, I immediately slipped into an unlit stairwell, hoping to knock on a door and hide in someone's home. As I climbed, I quickly heard someone in the street shout that there had been a murder. I felt even more uneasy and kept heading upward.
Just as I was about to knock, the floor beneath my feet felt sticky—my shoes were covered in something red, like blood. Farther up, a closed door was leaking red liquid; I was now almost certain it was blood. By this point my feet were coated in thick, sticky blood. I became alert and slowed my steps, because I could see the blood had a trail leading upward. Following the drops, I crept upstairs. Near the top floor, a cat appeared. It made no sound and only stared at me. There was no blood on its body or paws.
I heard movement on the roof as the drops grew sparse. Looking up, I saw a middle-aged couple arguing on the terrace. The man said he wanted to jump. I did not know the reason; they kept arguing about something, and his wife kept provoking him. He sat beside the edge of the rooftop, and suddenly the woman stepped forward and pushed him off. Through the glass between floors I watched him fall. Their child was right there, and cried out, "Mom, you killed Dad." I went back downstairs, looked at my shoes, and the blood was gone.
